Illamasqua Pivot and Dare - Yellow Green Eye Shadow Comparison

You may remember I fell for Dare after using it on the Experimental Colour Workshop I attended in November. to be honest, before attending any of the courses at Illamasqua I'd seared clear of their Eyeshadows having seen many reports of poor colour pay-off. What I learnt on my first course at Illamasqua was a need to press them onto a base. In the days pre Cream Pigments the guys at Illamasqua used concealer to achieve the amazing colours we expect from Illamasqua.  I was so in love having used it over Cream Pigment in Bedaub, I purchased it before I left that day.

So I couldn't quite belive it when Dare appeared in the January Sale. How could they get rid of this....Pivot of course is the answer. David Horne Head of NPD has been tweaking the shadow formulations as well as the colours.

I thought a comparison may be helpful for anyone who already owns Dare.

Pivot is exactly half way between Yellow and Green on the colour wheel, whiles the newly launched Burst - a must have colour as far as I'm concerned - is exactly half way between Green and Blue on the colour wheel.

Pivot is to the left or top in all pics, I swatched over Bedaub and Frontcover's Shadowbase, then added in bare skin, but this was very near the crease of my elbow and the colour really didn't want to take. It's easy to see why people have been put off when applying these colours without a base. I have a better clean skin swatch on my collection post.

Pivot really glows over Bedaub in comparison to Dare!

Whilst I definitely think Pivot is the outstanding choice of the 2, I think for most people who have Dare already, Pivot isn't going to be an immediate must have, unless you have a project where the luminosity of the green really matters.

Pivot = PR Sample

  1. Gorgeous! I had an enormouse need for a lime green eye shadow a while ago, I bought a GOSH one that seemed to deal with the craving but it didn't really have the zing I was after! If that urge ever comes upon me again I'll know where to go now! x
