Texan company Everyday Minerals arrived in the UK about 18months ago, so they're still relatively new here. Online retailer Cocktail Cosmetics, who specialize in professional make up artist, vegan and niche market brands, are the biggest stockist and the site plays host to a simply vast array of shades and colours.
I first became aware of Cocktail Cosmetics on twitter whilst keeping an eye out for UK suppliers of OCC Lip Tars and Sugarpill Make-up and jumped at the chance to have a play with some mineral shadows. Minerals are something I've thought about and never quite got round to indulging in, so this was a great chance to play. I had some Muji stacking jars to hand I've been meaning to use for my Illamasqua pigments so I decanted a small amount of each colour into a set. Never spray surgical spirit near these things as I foolishly did - the acrylic doesn't like it and the screw bottoms just sheared straight off. Doh!
Back to the Everyday Minerals: The range is 100% natural, organic, paraben free and suitable for vegans and is especially kind to those with sensitive skin. PETA and BUAV approved, Everyday Minerals are never tested on animals.
The sifters aren't so easy to prise off delicately, they have a really good seal on them, usually great news - so I pealed back the sticker, also well sealed - about half way and tapped some of the contents into my jar. Normally you put a couple of pin holes in the sticker so that too much doesn't come out at once.
By having them all to hand in a stacking jar I don't risk dropping too much or contaminating the pot - something I've become obsessed with since makeup school. I can keep the rest of the contents pristine for later or feel free to use it on someone else without having to be too careful in my everyday capacity as half asleep Mum.
I'm Keeping Your CD's, Wish You Were Here and Still Moments are 3 from a range of 38 Shimmer colours. There are also 28 Pearl colours and 14 mattes - told you it was vast!! And that doesn't include the availability of many of the colours in trial sized travel packaging.
First up, I'm Keeping Your CD's A dark forest green. Being new to Minerals I decided to swatch each colour several ways to see how it reacted. For some reason I worked from Right to Left, with product alone sheared right out, wet with a liner brush, product alone patted on densely, over Fyrianne Pixie Epoxy and over Art Deco Eye Shadow Base.
Still Moments:
Oh what sparkle! despite the bright sunlight, the pictures haven't captured the sparkle I saw in direct sunlight.
R to L:
Art Deco Eye Shadow Base - Fyrianne Pixie Epoxy - product alone patted on densely
- wet with a liner brush-product alone sheared right out
Wish You Were Here:

Whilst loving the colour of Wish You Were Here in the pot, it's definitely not looking good on me sheared out and I wondered if it would end up looking too bruise like, but it's a great find!
No primer used here. IKYC applied as a soft liner, WYWH patted on over the mobile lid and blended out, then a little extra IKYC as a wet liner. Finished with a tiny touch of SM on the inner corner.
WYWH really comes alive for me though over the Art Deco Eye Shadow Base, retaining much more of the pink vibrancy you see in the jar. I have primer on the mobile lid only and Still Moments has been blended along the crease.

In all, I'm quite excited by my first foray into mineral eyes. Cocktail Cosmetics currently have a buy 3 Everyday Minerals shadows get an Everyday Minerals Shadow Brush free offer going. And if you spend more than £25 on the brand a random Travel Size shadow will be thrown in free too! Shadows cost £5.95, Trvel sizes are £2.95.
